The ascending point is the point of intersection towards the east6 between the horizon7 and the ecliptic8. Learn about Sun in 10th House for Pisces Ascendant. If the Sun crosses the eastern horizon (it rises), as the Sun is by definition always on the ecliptic, it then coincides with the ascendant. The horizon and the ecliptic have a second point of intersection towards the West called the Descending point. If the Sun crosses the western horizon (it is setting), as the Sun is by definition always on the ecliptic, it then coincides with the descendant. The Ascendant and the Descendant form by their extension what is called the horizon line on the photo circle of the twelve signs. These two points are always opposite compared to the circle of the signs (compared to the center of the chart) because they are points forming an axis of the terrestrial sphere extended on the celestial sphere (that of the signs). There is thus equality in space between what is above the horizon and what is below (but not necessarily equality in travel time of the stars between the diurnal hemisphere and the nocturnal hemisphere.
