What should shampoo do?

The first thing to remember is that the shampoo is primarily designed to cleanse the hair and scalp of excess sebum, dust and dirt adhering to it, as well as dying cells, and not for treating or restoring hair. So: Don't expect miracles from a shampoo!

“Anti-loss shampoos”, for example, are nothing more than a marketing ploy, because hair loss depends solely on the condition of the hair follicles, which the best shampoo and conditioner for permed hair cannot have any effect on, since it simply does not penetrate the level of the follicles. The active ingredients of the shampoo can penetrate the upper layers of the skin and take care of it, for example, providing a moisturizing or softening effect. But to influence the roots, means of a different composition and purpose are needed, namely, local serums.

As for the restoration of damaged hair, masks, oils, conditioners are suitable here. At the same time, you need to understand that these products primarily perform camouflage functions (like foundation for the face). They can “glue” the cuticle scales that stand up on end, which will make the hair smoother and shinier, help retain moisture in the hair shaft, due to which it will appear denser and more elastic, but they will not make the damaged hair “new and whole”. Such products help to improve the appearance of hair, so they are indispensable in daily care, but only new hair can grow completely healthy.

What shouldn't shampoo do?

How to choose the right shampoo Shampoo should clean, but should not wash off the natural protective lipid film. This film serves as a protective mechanism that protects the scalp from bacteria, dehydration and keeps the epidermis healthy. Therefore, choose shampoos without aggressive ingredients that are suitable for daily use.

It is important to choose a shampoo according to the type of hair

It is important that the shampoo is suitable for your hair type, or rather, for the type of scalp. It is the type of scalp that determines the type of hair:

Greasy hair

Overactive sebaceous glands, excess natural hair lubricant. Hair quickly gets dirty, greasy, becomes untidy, needs frequent washing (every day or as needed).

Dry hair

 The activity of the sebaceous glands is low, there is not enough natural lubrication. The reason may be the individual characteristics of a person, age, perm, hair coloring, prolonged exposure to the sun. Hair - thin, brittle, split at the ends. They do not need frequent washing.

Normal hair

The work of the whole organism is balanced. Hair is elastic, soft, shiny and healthy. They need regular washing as they get dirty and do not require special care.

When choosing a shampoo, you should focus primarily on the condition of the scalp, and not on the condition of the curls. If you have dry hair, it does not mean that the scalp is dry. It can be of a normal or even oily type, and the hair can become dry due to external influences - dyeing, frequent blow-drying, and so on. In this case, you should choose a shampoo for normal hair, but balm, oils and masks for dry hair.

For normal scalp, use any shampoo that is suitable for daily use - that is, with a reduced content of surfactants, which does not cause complete and excessive degreasing of the hair, and has a mild effect. It is good if the composition of such a shampoo includes vitaminizing and tonic additives that give the hair softness and shine, which helps to maintain a healthy look of the hair;

For oily scalps, we also recommend regular shampoo for normal hair, just use it as often as needed. The fact is that special shampoos for oily hair, as a rule, clean the scalp too thoroughly, washing off the protective barrier and provoking the sebaceous glands to work even harder to restore it. This leads to the need to wash our hair even more often - we find ourselves in a "vicious circle". Shampoo specifically for oily hair should be chosen only if recommended by a trichologist.

Shampoos containing fatty substances, as well as active additives of therapeutic and prophylactic action, such as vitamins, amino acids, plant extracts, biostimulants, are suitable for dry scalp.

Returning to the types of hair, we note that there are still some nuances here:

If you have thin hair, choose a shampoo that does not weigh down - that is, it does not contain oils, but contains moisture-retaining components (collagen, hyaluronic acid, provitamin B5): hair filled with moisture looks thicker and denser. Usually such shampoos are called "For volume";

For colored curls, use special shampoos "for colored hair", as they already have a more concentrated nutritional and moisturizing composition and do not wash out the color (due to UV filters and emulsifying waxes);

Buy for damaged hair shampoo that suits your scalp type and use additional care for damaged hair: nourishing and moisturizing oils and masks.

For hair with dandruff, you need a shampoo with anti-dandruff ingredients or an anti-seborrheic shampoo. The active component in such shampoos can be antimicrobial additives such as derivatives of selenium, zinc pyridinethione, etc., as well as special anti-dandruff complexes created on the basis of extracts of medicinal plants with antiseptic and anti-inflammatory effects.
