"Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's needs, but not every man's greed", said Mahatma Gandhi. On this Earth Day, April 22nd, at VidyaGyan, we are trying to reflect on Gandhi's quotes through our actions. Trees are not just another living thing but a source of life on Earth. Cutting trees for human needs has reached an unsustainable stage, which is why we have organized a tree planting event. Students of VidyaGyan happily participated in tree planting, an event showcasing their responsibility towards a greener future. After all, Earth is our only home, and we have to take care of it. Not just that, according to the theme of Earth Day 2024, "Planet vs. Plastics", we took a pledge. We also organized a cleaning-up campaign to remove plastic and raise awareness among students.
VidyaGyan was started in 2009 as an initiative of the Shiv Nadar Foundation. Its goal is not just to identify students from rural backgrounds and make them leaders but also to make them environmentally responsible. Our goal of bringing transformation in education also includes training students to live a sustainable life and making sure that the resources of Earth are equitably shared by all living. At the VidyaGyan campus, we promise to reduce, reuse, and recycle because a healthy Earth means healthy us, and we teach it to students and follow in our every action. This promises a sustainable future for not only humans but for all living organisms on Earth.
VidyaGyan was established as India's first Rural Development Institute and an academy focused on developing future leaders. By nurturing environmentally conscious leaders, we act as a catalyst for change for the community, country, and world as a whole. Our model is unique and can be scaled up and replicated anywhere in the world, as we aim to provide opportunities for world-class education to talented students from poorer and rural parts of the state of Uttar Pradesh. Students in our institute will be turned into a valuable human resource who brings new ideas for sustainable development and building our country. At VidyaGyan, we believe that every day should be Earth Day, so we must continue to take action throughout the year.
