Why’s Traffic Control Very Important?
There are different situations where the flow of traffic may be disrupted and require a controlled alternative route. These include, motorway construction, repairing roads, installing driveways, or public events, such as a marathon or rugby game. Every time there is a situation that affects the flow of traffic and the safety of people there is an individual traffic management plan to assist with safe traffic control.
The areas between first advance sign and point where traffic is not controlled are called traffic control zones. Thus, driving through the traffic control zones very safely needs you to know some important rules where safety is been concerned. So, here are some traffic control zones you should understand to travel very safely through the traffic construction surrounding.
Advance Warning
Advance warning is a point where initial warning signs will be placed so that you as the motor-vehicle operator will prepare to make the right maneuvers. In the traffic environment and where there‘s not any shoulder closure, a single sign can be enough because traffic construction is not choking the flow of the traffic. On the two-way and multilane roads, the advance warning signs must be placed over all roads to slow speed traffic if stopping is essential. The Message-Information-Action signing must be displayed with the signs to get placed on the road. A first sign informs the motorists that they’re approaching the area where the work is ongoing. This message can read something such as “ROAD WORK AHEAD”. The next sign may have the information about what motorists must expect ahead. Message can read something “SINGLE LANE ROAD”, and the third sign is an action to take or message on road sign can say “BE PREPARED AND STOP”. You might subconsciously read all these messages or follow the directions based on the behaviour of traffic that you are already the part of or flowing with, now you come to know what you are looking at when it is happening.
Transition Area
In a transition area, shoulder and lane will be closed with the use of channelizing the devices that will be the orange traffic cones and other traffic devices. In the situation where there’s the problem of the restricted sight distance like a sharp horizontal and vertical curve, lane closure must start at quite a reasonable distance before view obstruction. The lane closure must not at all be placed at an end of the curves, thus you will not have to worry about missing this or driving off the cliff. That is why transition areas are an important phase in the traffic control zones.
Use the traffic management plan when you are inspecting the traffic control plans or safety precautions before you commence work on every shift. Begin the inspection just by providing the complete details of this project, speed limits or expected traffic conditions. You need to inspect temporary traffic control security measures that include the safety signs, PPE worn, channelizing devices, as well as flagging.
