FL Studio 20 elevates the popular DAW to an exceptional state of new functionality

We already told you a while ago ( October 2017 ), that there would never be an FL Studio 13 and that, in addition, a solid version for Mac was on the way. And all of this has suddenly come true. The fact at hand is that, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of its launch (yes, 20 years now), Image-Line has presented FL Studio 20, the renewed version of the popular music production software with «everything you need to compose, arrange, record, edit, mix and master music at a professional quality level ”, according to our friends at BitBeat, distributors for Spain.

Now available in four versions, Fruity Edition, Producer Edition, Signature Bundle Edition, and All Plugins Bundle, the long-awaited FL Studio 20 also welcomes the arrival of an educational variant with the name FL Studio Signature Edition. And any user can upgrade their installation to FL Studio 20 without paying any extra. Very good for the company and its policy.

In addition to the new features added, the new version recovers classic functionalities ...

This is everything new you will find in FL Studio 20

Full Mac compatibility: FL Studio Mobile APK is now available as a native 64bit application for Apple macOS. And that includes full compatibility with VST and AU plugins. As you can imagine, projects created on Windows and macOS are cross-platform and you can exchange them and therefore share them with other users. Both existing and new users can use both the Mac and Windows versions at no additional cost.

FL Studio 20 lets you create and edit unlimited numbers of different time signatures, both in the 'Playlist' as well as on piano rolls. You can use multiple tempos at any point during your song or even switch between them mid-playlist for an added dynamic effect!

'Render In Situ' (or freeze): Allows audio clips and patterns to be converted to audio. It includes options like 'Consolidate Selection of Clips from Playlist', 'Consolidate Tracks from Playlist', 'Render Clips to Audio', 'Render Clips to Audio', and replace the original Pattern Clips. Using these features it is possible to collect multiple takes on a single audio clip, reduce CPU consumption by converting real-time synthesis and effects processing to audio, or even convert MIDI data to audio for further processing actions.

Arrangements in Playlist: The Playlist now offers support for multiple arrangements. And each arrangement corresponds to the arrangement of Clip patterns, automation, and audio. Users have the option of working on multiple versions of their project that consolidate different ideas, designs, and arrangements.

'PDC' ( Plugin Delay Compensation ): The 'PDC' and 'Automatic PDC' functionalities have been redesigned from the ground up to "add support to the most complex working methods". And in FL Studio 20, manual and automatic plug-in delay compensation can coexist. Improvements in PDC are useful compensation for shipments mixer levels Wet / Dry of the mixer, the audio input, and the metronome. We also see improvements in the memorization of the 'Plugin Wrapper' values, and appropriate PDC controls in the mixer.

In addition to the new features that have been added, the new version recovers classic functionalities, among which the following should be highlighted:

'Graph Editor': Yes, it returns 'Graph Editor', really useful when we use a multi-touch control. And the bigger the touch screen, the better users will use 'Graph Editor'.

'Precomputed FX': These effects processors, which were included in the first versions, have returned with honors to FL Studio 20. And they include 'Boost', 'EQ', 'Ring Modulation', 'LPF', 'Reverb' , 'Stereo Delay' and 'Pogo' (Pitch Bend)… A great surprise for users and fans with more years of experience and creative work on the platform.

'Channel Sampler': Includes two new options for the sample start point. 'Start Offset' moves the sample start point and accepts automation. And for its part, 'Simple Start' cuts our data to create a new starting point. In practice, we see that it is useful for functions that process the entire sample window.

News and updates in plugins

'VFX Level Scaler' (new): Scales the note properties as received from 'Piano roll'. The graph presents the input/output mapping for Note, Velocity, Fade, Pitch, Pan, X modulation, and Y modulation values.

'DirectWave' (updated): The loop types in the 'Zone' section can be set to all selected zones at once. New 'Copy To Selected Pones' option for some 'Zone' parameters.

'Edison' (updated): Option to export files at 24bit.

'Fruity Convolver' (updated): A control over plugin delay compensation has been implemented to support the new 'Linear Phase EQ Long Compensated' and 'Short Compensated' presets .

'ZGameEditor Visualizer' (Updated): Offers new project 'Wizard' presets, plus new peak-based effects. It is allowing the layers to collapse, and copying and pasting them into the clipboard ( clipboard ). The response to the 'Linear' peak effect has also been optimized.

In response to user requests, Image-Line has incorporated many of the best proposals into FL Studio 20 ...

Upcoming enhancements for audio recording

In the next updates of FL Studio 20 we will attend the presentation of these improvements regarding audio recording :

Real-time visualization: Live visualization as the capture takes place.

Punch In / Out: Using the secondary button it will be possible to automate the master record switch. So you can work directly on your instrument, making sure that it will be recorded at the point you want.

Take Grouping ( takes ): When looping, the resulting multiple takes will be grouped behind the track of the mixer you used.

Take Consolidation: When selecting your audio takes, you can use the new 'Consolidate playlist selection' menu to unify the selections on a new audio clip .

Hide tracks: And when you are ready to clean the Playlist, you can use the new arrangements to start an empty Playlist or view the grouped tracks that you have consolidated.

Responding to user requests, Image-Line has incorporated many of the best propositions into FL Studio 20. Among these, we have to mention the purchase of plugins from the environment itself, new options for rendering audio, a higher number of tracks (125 in the mixer and 500 in the Playlist), and much more news that are beyond the scope of this news. In any case, you can expand your information from the links that we give you below.
