Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) is made of a blend of ammonia, fluoride, water, and silver. When applied to a cavity, it destroys the bacteria and hardens soft enamel to halt the progression of the cavity. SDF is ideal for baby teeth, since you can treat cavities without fillings, and keep the baby tooth healthy until it falls out naturally. However, SDF does stain the tooth black, so it’s not used to restore permanent teeth.
We offer both stainless steel and composite crowns for repairing decayed and damaged teeth. Stainless steel is strong and durable, and holds up well to the forces of chewing. It’s preferred for rear teeth such as molars, since the material is stronger. And though the treated tooth will have a silver appearance, this is not a big deal in the rear teeth.
Composite crowns are made of dental resin. They are less durable than stainless steel crowns, but have a much more natural appearance, so they’re ideal for restoring your child’s front teeth.
Space maintainers are placed in the gap where a missing baby tooth used to be, and they preserve the space between the teeth to ensure proper oral development. Losing a baby tooth early can cause teeth shifting and other issues that may affect the eruption of permanent teeth, so it’s highly recommended that your child should get space maintainers if they’ve lost one or more baby teeth prematurely.
We offer oral conscious sedation options for kids at our office to help them feel safe and comfortable. General anesthesia is also available, which will render them completely unconscious and ensure that they feel absolutely no fear, pain, or discomfort during their treatment.
