He was a victim of bullying at school
On a few occasions, Mercedes Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton has discussed some incidents that impacted his childhood, and in particular the bullying he was subjected to as a child.
However, he only recently went into detail about some of his personal experiences that traumatized him when he was at a very young age.
Bullying at school
The seven-time Formula 1 champion appeared on Jay Shetty's On Purpose podcast and revealed how he was bullied at school at the age of six.
"I was already being bullied at the age of six," Hamilton said.
"I think at the time of that particular school, I was probably one of three kids of color, and just bigger and stronger bullying kids were throwing me around a lot of the time.
"And then the constant jabs, things that are either thrown at you like bananas, or people that would use the n-word just so relaxed.
"People calling you half-caste and you know, just really not knowing where you fit in. That, for me, was difficult.
"When you then go into like history class and everything you learn in history, there are no pictures of people of color in the history that they were teaching us. So, I was thinking, Oh, well, where are the people that look like me?"
Abused by teachers
In an interview for Vanity Fair back in August, Hamilton revealed that he was even mocked by teachers at school.

Lewis Hamilton remains confident in his virtues despite his disappointing 2022 season, as the Englishman has claimed that he is the finest Formula 1 driver of all time.
Having already won seven world championships, Hamilton can overtake Michael Schumacher and become the driver with the most F1 titles in history if he manages to dominate in 2023.

When he was reminded by Dutch publication Formula1.nl that no driver has ever won a Grand Prix after 300 starts, Hamilton confidently replied that "there has never been a driver like me".
Should Hamilton win a Grand Prix this year, he will become the first driver to have done so after his 300th F1 race start. Kimi Raikkonen's last victory was in his 288th start, while Hamilton's last was in his 287th.
Last season was Hamilton's first campaign without recording a single Grand Prix win. Mercedes' only victory in 2022 was achieved by George Russell, but Hamilton stressed that "if I can say anything about last year, it's that as a team we've only become more resilient and more determined".
Hamilton explained that he wanted to bounce back after missing out on the F1 title in 2021, but he was disappointed that his car couldn't deliver.
"At one point I thought, 'God, I really can't fight for the title with this car'," he added.
The seven-time world champion finished sixth last season, where he managed just two fastest laps, leading for just 46 laps.
"I think we started the year with a car we didn't want and ended up with a car we didn't want either, but we basically got stuck with it," he noted.
Saudi Arabia wants it all. The country already has its Formula 1 Grand Prix, in Jeddah until 2027 and with a view to continue for many years to come, while work has already started on another circuit in Qiddiya.
The country even has ambitions for existing F1 teams to move to its futuristic city of Neom, but even that doesn't satisfy their need.
It has now been revealed that the Saudis tried to buy Formula 1 as a whole.
According to the Bloomberg, the offer was made in early 2022, with the Middle Eastern country offering the Liberty Group an astronomical offer of 20 billion dollars, about 18.5 billion euros.
The offer was made through PIF, its investment fund which has a diversified portfolio of investments.
However, Liberty was not interested in selling a commodity that they themselves recently purchased from Bernie Ecclestone in September 2016 for around 4.4bn dollars.
While the product suffered severe losses due to the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, it has been on an upward trajectory since then with significant profits and a current valuation of 12.5bn dollars.
Saudi Arabia will keep pushing to buy F1
The Saudis, though, are not willing to take the 'no' as a definitive answer. According to Bloomberg, they have intimated to Liberty that the offer is still valid and they are even open to raising it.
Meanwhile, the country continues to invest in motorsport, in different ways. It already has shares in McLaren and Aston Martin, where it is the second largest shareholder after Lawrence Stroll.
Meanwhile, Aramco, the state's own oil company, is the main sponsor of numerous Grand Prix and of F1 itself.
Saudi Arabia's other sporting ventures
F1 is just one part of the country's ambitious campaign to burnish its name via sport.
It also hosts the Dakar Rally and has signed a deal for MotoGP. It is also about to organize a WRC Rally and has already secured a Formula E eprix
In addition to its forays in motorsport, the oil rich nation is looking to make its mark in football with Cristiano Ronaldo's arrival in Al Nassr a statement of intent.
Saudi Arabia's investment fund also own Newcastle in the Premier League and they have announced that they will bid to host the 2030 World Cup
Hamilton and the rumor of an exorbitant renewal with Mercedes
Rumors are circulating that Lewis Hamilton could stay in F1 for two more years
While he might still have a full year left on his contract, speculation is already starting to mount over Lewis Hamilton's possible renewal with Mercedes AMG F1.
The amount being touted is around 70 million euros per year, meaning the seven-time Formula 1 world champion would once again become the F1's highest earner, a title he currently shares with double world champion Max Verstappen.
According to 'Sportune' this would be a significant improvement on his current F1 salary, which earns him around 45 million euros. However, the additional 25 million euro bonus for winning the world title would be ruled out, meaning Hamilton could secure a huge upfront pay out.
The deal would cover the 2024 and 2025 season, meaning Hamilton would earn 140 million euros in total over the two years. It would also mean he would stay in F1 until he was 40, having turned 38 earlier this month.
Hamilton recently expressed no intention of hanging up his helmet, with the Mercedes man still on the hunt for a record breaking eighth world title.
Hamilton is currently spending a few days in Antarctica, where he is preparing for the new season, which will feature a record 23 Grands Prix.
Wolff believes there will be an immediate deal
According to team CEO Toto Wolff, negotiations will be resolved quickly with both parties keen on coming to an agreement.
"We have a full year ahead of us," Wolff told The Mirror.
"Over the last ten years our relationship has grown and it's just a question of him physically returning to Europe.
"When we get together, we'll have a little debate and we'll be out of the room with white smoke in a matter of hours."

If the deal is confirmed, Hamilton would be by far the highest paid driver on the grid, surpassing the last contract of Max Verstappen, who in 2022 would have taken 40 million salary, plus 20 million bonus for his second world title.
Third on the list would be Fernando Alonso, who is said to take 20 million a year in his new contract with Aston Martin.
The definitive 2023 Formula 1 calendar: There will be 23 races instead of 24
The Chinese Grand Prix has been cancelled
The calendar for the 2023 Formula 1 season has now been definitively confirmed, with F1 bosses confirming that there will be just 23 races instead of the 24 originally planned.
That's because the Chinese Grand Prix has been cancelled, due to COVID-19 concerns.
There had been talk about replacing the Chinese date with another race, but ultimately there is no new event being added and this means that there will be an extended pause between the Australian Grand Prix on April 2 and the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on April 30.
Formula 1 can confirm that the 2023 season will consist of 23 races," a statement started on Tuesday.
"That means the season will kick off with the Bahrain Grand Prix on March 5, and finish up in Abu Dhabi on November 26, with the brand new Las Vegas Grand Prix joining the calendar a week before the season finale."
