Smith started volunteering at a hospital's alcohol and drug treatment program due to his concerns about the increasing drug abuse problem. This experience motivated him to pursue certification, a degree, and a drug counselor career.

Because of his successful role as a program coordinator, Smith caught the attention of John Lucas from the Houston Rockets. John Lucas appointed him as the program director of the John Lucas Treatment and Recovery Center. In his new position, Smith had the opportunity to interact with various community leaders, national and local political figures, athletes, and other influential individuals.

As the program director and radio host, Smith was privileged to interview and share the stage with numerous local and national celebrities. Academic Endeavors

Smith faced significant obstacles during his early education and was placed in special education during seventh grade. However, his determination and perseverance allowed him to excel in middle and high school, all while participating in cross-country running and working part-time jobs.

In his first semester of college, he received a lower grade than he had hoped for on his first English literature paper. Smith, upon reflection, acknowledged that he deserved the grade he was given. “However, my professor ensured I would always remember it by expanding the grading scale to include a "g-," he said. This experience motivated him to focus more and be better prepared. He adapted to the college environment through self-motivation and achieved academic excellence, earning a Ph.D. in Behavioral Science, a Juris Doctor, and a Doctor of Ministry in Counseling.

Starting his career as a young door-to-door salesperson in Los Angeles, J Thomas began each day by immersing himself in motivational recordings by renowned figures such as Zig Zigler, Norman Vincent Peale, Napoleon Hill, and Earl Nightingale. Driven by a strong desire to succeed, he overcame challenges and developed his unique "Signature D-VAMM Framework®️," which propelled him forward in various professional fields.
